It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

The Victoria Garnet, one of the largest jewels of its kind. Bruce had gone through great lengths pulling strings to have the garnet moved from its home in Italy to have it put on display at the Gotham Museum of Antiquities for the following week. The red gem gleamed a deep blood red in a glass casing on a display tucked in a secure corner of the museum, located far from vents or windows. At this time of night, steel bars protected the display from its only entrance.
From his position tightly secured to the upper right corner of the rafters of the museums high rising ceiling, Batman waited patiently. His target, a high profile burglar known to him only as catwoman. He knew her M.O, and that she wouldn't be able to resist a prize like this. The museum had ramped up security on its own, two squads of private security guards patrolled the dimly lit expanse of the museum talking amongst themselves.
Catwoman had been an elusive target, he had only caught glimpses of her slipping into the shadows with various prizes. She knew the shadows of Gotham more than he, and her ability to slip away despite his training was uncanny. Tonight, Bruce had set a trap for her. She would not slip away this time.

A pair of big brown eyes peered out from under the ceramic lid of an ancient Grecian urn. Inside of this newest addition to to the Museum a woman crouched patiently awaiting the perfect moment to strike. How long she had been there was difficult to tell. It had to have been a few hours at least since the guards she had paid off had carried the crated urn into the building.
Selina lifted the lid carefully and climbed onto the delicate rim of the large vase. Her toes curled around the edge as she sat perched with her knees beneath her for a moment. She could feel her blood racing and her eyes gleamed with excitement as she waited in the dark; listening for any sound.
She hopped from the urn and rolled silently towards the door to the room and opened it a crack. She held her breath as a security camera rotated towards her location. Tapping her fingernails against the door, she counted down the seconds. 3... 2... 1... She let out a quiet purr of satisfaction as the camera began to turn back towards the other end of the hall. Selina slipped through the door and tip-toed down the hall towards the large chamber where her prize awaited.
She leapt vertically; grasping the wooden rafter and pulling herself up into the shadows of the ceiling just in time to avoid the camera's next sweep. She could hear the guards playing cards in the next room but they seemed unconcerned. Catwoman spread her arms to her side for balance as she stood. She spotted the gleaming red jewel in a cage on the other side of the room. Her eyes became fixed on that point as she strutted coolly across the wooden beam. She was blissfully unaware of the threat which lurked in the dark corners of her vision.

Batman's eyes became fixed upon a subtle movement out of the corner of his eye. When he turned his head to try to catch the shadow of movement it was gone. She was here, he was sure that it was her lurking somewhere nearby, but he couldn't get a fix on her location. He was tempted to move for a pair of thermal lenses on his utility belt, but feared that even the slightest rustling might give away his own position to the perceptive catwoman. Frowning he continued to watch carefully from his perch, scanning around with his eyes for another sign of her.
He kept his eyes close to the cage. So long as he was watching her target he was sure that the burglar would appear.
